Description:Ball pythons (like the one above) belong to the family of, well, pythons. These are very similar to boas. The ball python is a constrictor like the all other pythons. They range to all parts of the world other than europe and places above or below arctic circles. The reticulated python is one of the most celebrated snakes. Firstly, it is the second heaviest. Then it also holds the record for longest, one measuring 32 feet. It is also the only snake to have ever eaten a human. Pythons are usually considered to be huge, dangerous animals. but in fact, they rank below vipers (rattlesnakes, ferdelance anyone?) elapids (cobras? mambas?) and colubrids (boomslang!). All eat mammals, from as small as a rat to as big as an antelope. Some will eat small lizards and caimans (rarely, alliagtors and crocs; but this is extremely rare). Pythons use the "caterpillar" method of movement. This is where the snake bunches up its muscles and scales towards its front, and expands them forward. Some people compare this to an inchworm, hence the name. They are also ambush predators, waiting for prey.
