Possum with Fries, Please
| Description: | Boas arer the titans of the animal reptile world, living alongside Pythons in a variety of habitats. From the three foot rubber boa to the 28 foot anaconda, Boas are some of the longest and heaviest. Most take medium prey like rats and birds, but a few even take down boar and caimans. Boas are on every continent except Antarctica, Plowing through habitat. Most Boas prefer moist, forested habitats, but not all do. Most people think that "Boa constrictor" is an overall term for constricting reptiles. Above is the only snake truly named a boa constrictor, but anacondas, pythons, and other constrictors are not just "Boa constrictors". Another common misconception is that A boa has eaten a human. But only one human has ever been eaten by a snake, and the snake was a retic python. All boas are live bearing. Most boas are nocturnal and all are ambush predators. This means the boa will wait, camoflouged in dead leaves or dirt, for a prey item to appear. When this happens, the boa will pounce, constricting and biting. Some (and increasingly fewer) people think that boids (pythons and boas) crush the bones and internal organs of their prey. Though this is not accurate, it is more accurate in some cases than the idea of constricting! Only the largest Boas, such as anacondas, do not stop there. Large boas can sometimes cause internal hemmoraging AND asphyxiation. |
