I'm getting hungry, and you won't like me when I'm hungry...
Description:Monitor lizards include komodo dragons, Nile monitors, and Goannas. Monitors are usually very large, with the Papua New Guienea monitor reaching fifteen feet!! The larger ones usually eat wild boar, deer, birds/eggs, other lizards, and snakes. Monitors can be very dangerous. They live in Asia, Australia, and Africa. Komodos are very strong: once some scientists put a dead goat in a cage that would slam closed when a komodo walked in. If the fact that it smelled to bad to get near by the time a komodo dragon walked in wasn't enough, it chewed it's way out of the inch-in-diameter steel bars serving as the door. Explorers used to see komodo dragons and think they were mythical. But scientists figured out the truth. Interestingly, the Earless monitor is more closely related to snakes than glass lizards. Sometimes the monitor lizards are claimed to be the smartest lizards, though this is not true. This family of lizards ranges from trees to deserts to streams. Komodos are the only lizard to have ever exhumed and eaten a human or killed and eaten a human. They are not venomous technically, but the bacteria in their mouth is as bad as venom. The average Komodo weighs about 110 lb.
