Independent eye for the straight guy
| Description: | Chameleons are famous for their color changing ability that corresponds to the chameleons mood and not to the background. Repeat, just so ya know it ain't a typo, NOT to the background. These lizards an have exceptionally long tounge (about as long as the lizard) which they use to lap up their flying dinner. They have two large eyes that can: 1. open and close their camera lense eyes. And: 2. independently move around, one usually scanning for food while the other for preadators. Over time, all five of their toes fused together in two groups forming toes great for their arboreal life-style. The chameleon eventually started using it's tail as a fifth hand. The chameleon is also a hard tongued lizard, like the gecko. They are an extremely ancient old world species that has adapted wonderfully. There are many species of chameleons, ranging across Africa and Asia. The male Jackson's cham has three triceratops style horns. But the females do not. Some chams do not change color as often as others. All of these lizard assume a normal, unemotional color as they mature. The colors, as vigorously stated earlier, are because of the mood, and not the background. E.g., when two males square off, they turn red, and sometimes darken to black. But when with females, the males usually turn green. Panther chameleons are an object of superstition in their native Africa. They are considered evil and venomous. Killing one is considered bad luck. (Probably not true, but we like them to think that) |
