matagorda island special three: Racerunner/whiptails!

Run run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the... um... race–run...tail...*sigh*
Description:Whiptails, AKA Racerunners are the fastest lizard in the world, up to 17 miles an hour for short periods of time. They are massively common, ranging from th coastal plains to East and West US. They eat insects. They are dirunal and are semiaquatic, preffering land. They are so rarely caught by predators because they run at huge speeds to the nearest body of water and dive in. In the mating season male six line racerunners turn turqoise on their chests.

I would say they are the supers of the lizard world(besides the Jesus lizard that can walk on water).

Yeah, have you ever tried to catch one of these? They're insanely fast. They usually dont break 15 mph, but after trying to keep that up even for a minute, most humans start feeling lightheaded (the fastest human could catch a racerunner, at 22 mph (whew!)). I tried and they move so fast so unexpectedly for something so small My eyes couldnt track them, so its was like it just dissapeared. Amazing.
